I finally defeated Sheng Long, hope I stand a chance!
This was a fight, I’d spent all week looking him up on the net and trying to draw him. I just couldn’t get anything working right then last night I was fucken around and I did this. I’ve spent all day fixing it up and I hope I got this sucker for all 3 rounds at S+!!!
If you don’t know who I’m talking about here is a rundown.
1: Sheng Long is a unofficial character from the Capcom fighting game series Street Fighter.
2: The notion of this character comes from a victory quote of Ryu’s from SF II
“You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance”
3: Sheng Long is the name of the Dragon Punch in Chinese. This is what Ryu was referring to. Not a person.
A more correct translation would be something like:
“You must defeat my Dragon Punch to stand a chance” or
“You must defeat my Shoryuken to stand a chance”
4: People didn’t know that back in the day and as many Asian names mean things like that - how where we supposed to know (eg. Ken means Fist or Punch )? Anyway, this Sheng Long guy sounded tough and most of us (and this is a worldwide thing) wanted to know more.
5: Along came EGM. One April they printed a fool’s day joke saying Sheng Long was Ryu and Ken’s master and he could be unlocked in the game by doing some really dumb shit like beating the whole game as Ryu without getting hit once and ending the first round with M. Bison in a draw from timeout. (some pages on the interment still have it as a real cheat.) There was also a fake photo of him in the game.

6: I’m not sure how Capcom felt about this but latter on Akuma would appear in Super Street Fighter II turbo. You could fight him by reaching M. Bison without continuing. (you could do this by not getting hit if you really, really wanted too)
7: This I have only just found out about and was the start of my Giant battle.
In a Shoryuken.com forum titled” Street Fighter the Movie Broke My Heart” a guy who worked on the much hated “Street fighter the movie” arcade game posted some insight on the games creation and development.
He apologises for it in general and explains how it was meant to turn out. (I actually love the dumb game. It’s a kitch thing, same reason I own both the street Fighter and Double dragon movies)
It seems there were a lot things intended for the game that never made it in. One of these things was Sheng Long.
He says:
Capcom Japan wasn’t too hot on that idea initially, saying something to the effect that “When Sheng Long does appear, it will be like God making an appearance.”
And then later, for whatever reason, the idea of adding Sheng Long came up again, and suddenly the Capcom guys were all for it.
The character they designed for Sheng Long wore a long green sleeveless Gi black pants long braided white hair, Fu Manchu moustache and had a green Dragon Arm(!). sounds lame but i would love to see it.
“Sheng Long was to be so advanced, he actually started to physically manifest dragon like attributes.”

8: Years on EGM would hoax us all again saying that Sheng Long was in Street Fighter 3. Once again they had pics and such. I had never seen the O.G. Hoax nor did i know it was one (but still thought Sheng Long was real) , as such i believed them. One day i will find the guy who did it and get some Sweeney Todd action. Never Forget, Never Forgive!
9: Any way despite the fact Sheng Long still doesn’t even exist in Street Fighter universe it doesn’t stop him popping up over the place (like my pic here).

Anyway that’s the Deal . i Just wanted to Draw him after reading all the junk on him. I still hoipe to one day to play as him in a real Street Fighter game one day, as a Dragon armed dude, as Ryu’s dad (you lives under a tree), as Ryu and Ken’s true master or just another Ansatsuken master, I don’t care.

Ether way Oro is Ryu's master now, whether Ryu wants it or not.
But thats a post Street Fighter 3 thing and SF4 is set between 2 and 3, so who knows?
What i do know is, is Abel looks like a dud and Crimson Viper has both flame and lighting attacks and thats some stupid Mortal Kombat style.
That said she and Guile are the two i most look forward to playing as of now.
Anywho, what I really hope for is to see some of the alpha characters again, like Dan Hibiki, R.mika, and at least one or two of the Final fight characters (Cody and Guy PWN!)
1: Just to get it over with and stop all this crap.
2: There was a 4-5 year gap between SF2 and SFA (Feels longer) . and in that time Shen Long WAS (in the west, or at least round my way) Ryu and Kens master. And even if he isn't, the notion was in the collective head of the OG SF2 community. There was no Internet back then, so how was anyone supposed to know? Telling us it ain't true wont change the fact we wanted him for that time. Then we saw Ryu's ending in Alpha, we where all like "who the shit is this Dude?"
3: Gouken's design is lame.
4: For the reason of 2, some Fan service would be nice, I'm already pissed with the fact that CAPCOM brought back Charge supers.
I dont mean to tell you off, but come on, we aren't dumb. I know Jesus is fake, but he still Kicked ass. ( him and Chuck Norris )
OH, and Able is such a weak version of Alex (why not just put him in?)
1)Sheng Long is the chinese term for the dragon fist
2)The design itself was made by EGM, and as such was nothing but a fanon prank.
3)Gouken is Gouken, that's how it was meant to be, and Capcom would not change that in favor of a design made made as an innaccurate prank.
Lame as Gouken's design may seem, he must have been very badass to have went one on one with the devil (Akuma/Gouki) himself, and forced him to have resorted to the Shun Goku Satsu.
My 5c
Id make him an avenging student of Goutetsu out for revenge against the murder of his master and fellow student, Gouken.
Dammit, my ideas go straight down the drain as soon as I start with them.
... Oh hell, give me a (somewaht) revival of Bison!
